I’m nineteen years old. is it even possible to learn how to play guitar or any instrument at this point?
How much would you have to practice? 2/3 hours a day?
Yup give it up. Your too old to learn anything at this point.

19 is not too old. Practice half an hour a day, more if you want to. I have learned to play several musical instruments since I was 19.

No, you should’ve started when you were 3 months. It’s too late for you.

No not at all. Not at all. There was this guy in the newspaper who learned to play the piano at age 80. He got so good that they asked him to do performances and everything. I think people make that stuff up that say you can’t learn something like a language or an instrument after a certain age in order to slow down competition for the people out there who struggle making money in that realm.

No, I started learning the violin at age 35 and many start at learning at age 50 or older.
I would not recommend practising 2/3 hours per day at first. This may cause some damage to your hands/fingers such as tendonitis or carpal tunnel.
One hour per day is enough for the first six months. After that you can increase it to two hours per day but break it up into two, one hour sessions. No need to rush ; have patience.

The reason young kids are able to learn more in a shorter period of time is because they are not as synical as adults. The human mind can process more information per second and faster than ANY super computer on the entire planet. Scientists have yet to discover anything more complex and amazing than the human mind.
It’s not too late to learn to play the guitar.

19 is not too old to learn, but it may be too old to learn well enough to play in a Rock Band… but it’s all a matter of how much effort you put into it.

I replied to a similar question regarding piano. I’m going to copy and paste the response. It’s applicable to any instrument.
Alright. I’m going to give you two answers.
If you’re intending to be a professional concert musician, it probably is a bit late. You’ll have to find the best teacher you can possibly find (meaning you might have to travel to find him or her), spend most of your time practicing (4-6 hours a day), studying about music (composers, pieces, time periods, theory…), listening and taking class. It’s a tough life, but I like to think worth every second of it. However, its not impossible. But you’ll have tons of young kids out there who’ve been playing since the cradle. Don’t let that deter you if its what you want. You may be able to form a chamber ensemble or teach. You’ll probably need another form of income.
However, if you want to do this for your own enjoyment. Join local groups or perhaps make one of your own, its definitely not too late. Practice is necessary for any amount of expertise and for me, its quite rewarding (I play the cello). Again, I still say find the best teacher you can because a bad teacher can ruin the experience and your technique. This venue is nice because you don’t have as much pressure and you still have the joy of music in your life. I still say you should listen to as much music as possible, read about it and study it, but thats all to the degree which you want.
Good luck.
That said, you really have to work up to multiple hours of practice. At first half hour sessions are good. Then hour, hour and a half, so on and so forth.
Despite it all. I am 23 and I still pick up new instruments:)

I did it, wel I was 16 but I mean you’re a little bit behind the rest and I wouldn’t recommend you to make it your life carreer if you don’t have outstanding learning abilities.
GO for it! You’ll never know if you don’t try
