Can someone tell me the steps i need to take when trying to learn guitar by myself?

i really want to learn guitar but i cant afford a teacher i have a book on basicas but can someone tell me ways i can teach myself in the process?

look up tabs for songs you really like and learn em…. eventually youll start remembering the chords that are used in various songs and youll get used to solos and riffs…..this is how i learned… no lessons whatsoever… i still dont know the names of most the chords i play or any scales but i write my own music and stuff

and for anyone who tries to tell you lessons is the only way to go…… Jimi Hendrix never took a formal lesson in his life and look what he could do with a guitar

   I have a cousin that is teaching himself, and using lessons on utube. His mother tells me he is doing pretty good at it. My son on the other hand just bought a very expensive guitar, and is paying for his own lessons. I haven't heard him yet, but if he masters this like everything else he does, he should be great.

   OK. Chords are the best place to start. Pick 2 or 3 chords, like A, D and E. Learn them one ata time, and practise changing between them. There are an awful lot of songs out there that use those 3 . Then you can add in G, which gives you 2 keys. - A (A D E ) and D (D G A). Practise rhythm patterns too.
